I can see you now bent over a piece of paper or staring at your computer screen {hypothetically, of course}. You are trying to write the perfect SMART goal. I know what you have been taught by your well-meaning self-help books, courses, Youtube videos, friends, and family. Create and set a goal. They instructed you to create a goal or goals to change your life.
Well, after several years of watching people set goals, take action towards achieving those goals, then fail, I can tell you using goals to change your life, isn’t that simple. I wish I could tell you that all you need to do is create really great SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Reasonable, and Time date stamped) goals and you are on your way to that new thing you so desire. Unfortunately, and I know you already know this, goals are not the panacea to achievement and success. Yeah, I know, everybody tells you they are, but they aren’t. And it isn’t your fault if you ever crafted a great goal, and still fell short.
It is the setting goals process in general. It has limitations. No one tells you that. The goal failed you. You didn’t fail the goal.
